Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026.
Hoistway (the "Hoistway: Elevator Aptitude" app and this website, hoistway.app) is built and operated by Zakhar Sazanavets, an independent developer trading through Fundacja Rozwoju Przedsiębiorczości „Twój StartUp”, ul. Żurawia 6/12 lok. 766, 00-503 Warszawa, Poland (KRS 0000442857). The foundation is the data controller. The short version: there are no accounts, your study progress lives on your phone, there are no ads, and nothing is sold to anyone.
What stays on your device
The app never asks for your name or email. Your answers, practice sessions, mock test results and progress by topic are stored in a database on your phone. We run no server that holds them and there is no sync between devices. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Usage analytics and crash reports
The app sends usage events to PostHog: that the app was opened, which onboarding steps were seen, that a diagnostic, practice session or mock test was started or finished and with what score, which question was answered, whether it was right and how long it took, and whether the purchase screen was shown. If you fill in the optional survey about the real test in Settings, your multiple-choice answers are sent the same way. These events carry a random identifier created by the app, not your name or email. We use them to see where people get stuck and to check that our time estimates per question are realistic.
Crashes and handled errors are reported through Sentry so we can fix them. A report contains technical details such as the device model, the operating system version and the place in the code where the error happened.
Both services receive your IP address as part of the connection, as any internet service does. The app uses no advertising identifiers and does no tracking across other apps or websites.
Purchases
The one-time unlock is paid through Apple or Google. We never see your card or billing details. RevenueCat keeps track of whether the unlock was bought, using an anonymous identifier and the store receipt, so the purchase can be restored on a new device.
This website
The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The diagnostic and the practice questions run entirely in your browser: your answers are not sent anywhere and are gone when you close the page. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and stop abuse.
The recruitment waitlist
On a local's page you can leave your email to be told when that local opens a recruitment window. We store the email address and the local number you picked, on Cloudflare. We send one confirmation email, then a notice each time that local opens a window. Nothing else is sent to that address and it is never shared or used for marketing. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and using it deletes your record. If you never confirm, we send nothing further; write to us and we will delete the unconfirmed record too.
Service providers
Each of these receives only what is described above: PostHog (analytics), Sentry (crash reports), RevenueCat (purchase status), Apple and Google (payments and app distribution), and Cloudflare (website hosting, waitlist storage and email delivery). Some of them process data in the United States.
What we never do
We do not sell or rent data to anyone, do not show ads, do not build advertising profiles, and do not collect contacts, location, photos or anything else from your phone beyond what this page lists.
Your rights
Your study data is on your device, so access and deletion are in your hands. For the waitlist, the unsubscribe link deletes your record. If you are in the EU or EEA you have rights under the GDPR: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, and the right to complain to your data protection authority. Our legal bases are your consent (the waitlist), performance of a contract (the purchase) and legitimate interest (analytics and crash reporting, to keep the app working and improve it). California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA.
Children
Hoistway is written for adults applying to an apprenticeship. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated effective date.
